Oregon Division of Financial Regulation Issues Bulletin Clarifying Coverage for Marijuana Items and Activities

Jul 11, 2017 Alerts

Because the production, sale, and use of medical and recreational marijuana is legal in the state of Oregon, yet illegal under federal law, the department issued Bulletin DFR 2017-04 in an effort to clarify and advise insurers to explicitly state whether or not marijuana items and activities are cover or excluded, and if marijuana activities are considered illegal under the policy.

The Bulletin also offers background and guidance for Property and Casualty Insurers as the conflicting state and federal laws do appear to add an element of confusion to the issue.
