| Each state presents a new set of rules. Did you know some states will waive your course requirements if you can pass their exam?
The Life & Health (L&H) industry covers insurance for Life, Medical, Disability, Burial, Fixed Annuities, Dental Services, Mortgage Accident and Sickness, and Travel Accident. Each state regulates individuals who sell Life & Health policies to cover risk in their respective state by requiring the individual to obtain a resident or nonresident L&H license.
An individual must obtain a resident license in the state that he or she resides or works in and often must also fulfill a certain amount of course hours to familiarize him or her with the state’s regulations and the professional conduct that is expected of the licensee. In certain states, this required course can be waived if the individual can demonstrate that he or she has a certain amount of insurance industry experience and can pass an exam.
An individual seeking to sell Life & Health and/or P&C insurance in a state other than their resident state must secure a nonresident L&H and/or P&C license. For individuals selling insurance in multiple states, this is an overwhelming task as each state has its own regulations, forms, fees and requirements. Basically, if you sell insurance, you must have the appropriate license. ILSA can help you make sense of it all.
