Alaska Announces Independent Adjuster License Exemptions Following Catastrophe Declaration

AK| Bulletin B 25-02 from the Alaska Division of Insurance, addresses independent adjuster license exemptions following a catastrophe declaration due to severe windstorms in Southcentral Alaska on January 11, 2025. It outlines the process for nonresident independent adjusters to apply for exemptions and provides guidance on licensing requirements.

Summary:

  • Catastrophe Declaration and Exemption Eligibility: The Director of Insurance declared a catastrophe under AS 21.27.860, allowing nonresident independent adjusters licensed in their home states to apply for exemptions to handle claims related to the event. Adjusters must be in good standing in their home states; designated home state licenses are not accepted for reciprocity.
  • Exemption Period and Licensing Options: Exempt registrations are valid for an initial 90-day period, with potential extensions as needed. Adjusters can apply for exemptions or full licenses through NIPR.com, and those wishing to continue working in Alaska beyond the exemption period must obtain an independent adjuster license.
  • Application and Contact Information: Applications for exemptions or licenses must follow Alaska’s guidelines, ensuring compliance with state regulations. Questions regarding the bulletin can be directed to Kayla Erickson via email or phone.
