MI| The Michigan DIFS has updated its list of Michigan Municipalities Participating in the Fire Insurance Withholding Program (Edition 179, effective June 1, 2025). The update provides an overview of Michigan’s Fire Insurance Withholding Program, which allows certain municipalities to escrow up to 25% of fire insurance settlements for real property losses due to fire, explosion, and, for larger municipalities, additional perils such as vandalism and civil unrest. The program is divided into two parts based on municipal and county population, with each municipality’s participation and applicable section of the Insurance Code indicated. The Bulletin also emphasizes the importance of using the most current edition, outlines the notice requirements for insurers regarding new municipalities, and provides contact information for questions or updates.
