New Mexico Mandates Health Plans Cover All Childhood Immunizations per Latest Pediatric Guidelines

NM| Bulletin 2025-008, from the New Mexico Office of Superintendent of Insurance, reminds health insurers and health maintenance organizations that all major medical or comprehensive health plans in New Mexico are required to provide coverage for childhood immunizations according to the current schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The bulletin specifies that coverage should include all medically necessary booster doses and these benefits may be subject to deductibles and coinsurance as with other contract benefits. Insurers are also encouraged to apply these criteria broadly across all lines of business.

Key Points

  • All individual and group health plans in New Mexico must cover childhood immunizations and medically necessary booster doses in line with the latest recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
  • Coverage for these immunizations may be subject to the same deductible and coinsurance terms as other policy benefits.
  • The Superintendent of Insurance encourages insurers to broadly apply these requirements to all lines of business offered in New Mexico.
