DE| The Delaware Department of Insurance issued Bulletin No. 160 (see Revised Bulletin 160) responding to the federal government shutdown by urging all insurance carriers operating in Delaware to temporarily accommodate impacted federal employees and contractors facing financial hardship. The accommodations include a minimum 60-day premium payment grace period, a moratorium on cancellations and nonrenewals for non-payment, suspension of late fees and penalties, acceptance of reasonable documentation of shutdown impact, and a minimum 30-day extension for property repairs. These measures apply to all types of insurance policies provided by admitted and non-admitted carriers in Delaware, and should remain in effect throughout the shutdown plus 30 additional days to support consumers as compensation delays are resolved. The bulletin encourages carriers to implement these provisions uniformly and to contact the Department for further compliance guidance, noting the bulletin is informational and not a source of legal rights or advice.
