AL | Alabama Department of Insurance has sent out an email reminding ALL individual surplus lines brokers that held an active license at any point during the preceding year are required to file an annual ID-15 tax form by March 1st 2018.
This applies to brokers that are reporting zero premiums as well. For all brokers that did not produce any business, please note that simply logging into your account via the department’s website and agreeing to and electronically submitting zero premiums written, DOES NOT complete your mandated filing requirements. Please be reminded that business entities/brokerage agencies are not required to submit an annual tax form.
Brokers who have transacted business must file the annual tax form ID-15, a check for payment of premium taxes due, and a Policy Report for all policies that were effective from 01/01/2017- 12/31/2017. You are also required to log in to the broker’s account to verify the list of ID-12s and summary that the database has automatically generated. Brokers may also file their taxes electronically through the NAIC OPTins program.
It is advisable that you review the Surplus Lines Process Instructions for further detailed information about surplus lines tax filings.
