Arizona Insurance Department Calls for Flexible Coverage and Support Amid Gila County Flood Crisis

AZ| The Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions issued Bulletin 2025-09 in response to the September 2025 flooding emergency in Gila County, urging all insurers to provide relief for affected policyholders. Insurers are encouraged to maintain coverage, prevent policy lapses, and offer flexible grace periods, payment plans, and claims handling to support individuals and businesses managing flood-related disruptions.

Key Points:

  • Insurers are urged to provide at least a 90-day grace period for premium payments, postpone cancellations or non-renewals, and offer six-month payment plans for those unable to pay after the grace period.
  • Health insurers should allow expedited medication replacements, waive early-refill and additional service authorization requirements, and provide replacements for essential medical or assistive devices lost in the flood.
  • Property and casualty insurers are encouraged to waive deductibles, especially for Additional Living Expenses, extend reporting and property replacement timeframes, and suspend any late or penalty fees due to policyholder hardship.
