Maryland Insurance Administration Highlights Legislative Changes Impacting Health and Property Coverage in 2025

MD| The Maryland Insurance Administration Bulletin 25-9 summarizes all insurance-related laws enacted in Maryland during the 2025 legislative session. It details a total of 38 enacted laws affecting life and health insurance, property and casualty insurance, market regulation, and general insurance matters.

Highlights include expanded coverage mandates for preventive health services, hearing aids, prostheses, and cancer screenings; new protections for consumers regarding adverse insurance decisions and genetic testing; permanent authorization for telehealth parity; the establishment of several workgroups and commissions to study issues such as pharmacy benefit management, health insurance pooling, and prescription drug affordability; and updates to provider directory requirements and credentialing processes.

Additional laws address insurance for public employees, protections for service members, pet insurance regulation, and changes to automobile insurance fund oversight. The summary notes that regulated entities should consult the full text of each law for compliance and that other unlisted bills may also impact insurance operations in Maryland.
