MI| Bulletin 2025-22-INS issued by the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services provides updated guidance on short-term limited duration (STLD) insurance and fixed indemnity excepted benefits coverage, superseding the prior 2024-23-INS bulletin. The bulletin notes that due to federal litigation and policy changes in 2024 and 2025, federal enforcement of certain notice and requirements for these products is no longer prioritized. However, Michigan state law still applies, notably limiting STLD policy duration to 185 days within any 365-day period, prohibiting renewals to extend this duration, and requiring immediate issuance upon completed application. STLD policies do not cover preexisting conditions, are exempt from certain ACA consumer protections, and must comply with Michigan review of forms and rates.
