While MID is not enacting a mandatory moratorium, companies are urged to avoid coverage lapses during the shutdown and the thirty days following; this guidance applies only to cancellations linked to missed payments caused by the shutdown, and standard statutory notice requirements remain for other cancellation reasons. Policyholders using electronic payment methods should proactively contact their insurers and financial institutions to arrange alternatives as needed.
