Missouri Waives Pharmacy Rules to Aid Residents Impacted by Severe Storms

MO| The Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance issued Bulletin 25-04 in response to Executive Order 25-24, signed by Governor Mike Kehoe on May 20, 2025, following the severe storms and tornado on May 16, 2025. The bulletin aims to ensure that individuals affected by the disaster can continue to access their prescription medications, even if their prescriptions or records were lost or their prescribing physician is unavailable. The Department strongly encourages health carriers and related entities to facilitate quick and flexible access to prescription refills and replacements for impacted residents.

Key Points:

  • Health carriers are urged to allow enrollees to obtain prescription refills, even if recently filled, to address loss or inaccessibility due to storm damage.
  • The Department of Health and Senior Services and the State Board of Pharmacy are authorized to temporarily waive or suspend certain statutes or rules to protect public health during the emergency and recovery period.
  • Consumers and carriers with questions are provided with contact information for assistance, including a hotline and online complaint form.
