Rhode Island Releases 2024 Auto Body Labor Rate Survey, Detailing Prevailing Repair Costs by Insurer

RI| Rhode Island Insurance Bulletin 2024-10 summarizes the results of the 2024 Auto Body Labor Rate Survey Reports submitted by insurers with over 1% market share, establishing prevailing labor rates for auto body repairs across various insurance groups in the state. The bulletin details rates for Class A and Class B shops, covering sheet metal/refinish, frame, mechanical, and aluminum work, with rates generally ranging from $48 to $65 per hour for most standard repairs, but reaching as high as $125 per hour for specialized aluminum or mechanical work with certain insurers.

Major insurers like Progressive, GEICO, Allstate, Amica, Liberty Mutual, and others report similar prevailing rates, with some allowing for negotiation or adjuster discretion. Insurers with less than 1% market share may voluntarily report rates or must negotiate them directly with repair shops if no report is filed, ensuring transparency and consistency in auto body labor costs statewide.
