HI | Hawaiian insurance licensees must now obtain name approval for and register any trade names used to conduct business in Hawaii.
On June 7, 2019, Governor David Y. Ige signed Act 070 into law. The law requires insurance licensees in Hawaii to register their trade name with the following:
- Business Registration Division (“BREG”)
- Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (“DCCA”)
This must be done prior to the use of that trade name, or change of trade name, to sell, solicit, or negotiate insurance in the state of Hawaii.
Act 070 takes effect on October 1. 2019.
Existing licensees using an unregistered trade name in Hawaii are responsible for the registration of their trade name with BREG.
