MD | Effective March 1, 2018, the Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is implementing the Online Premium Tax for Insurance (OPTins) system. MIA requests producers use this system for reporting and payment of surplus lines premium taxes. This includes the first semi-annual payment for 2018, which is due on March 15, 2018.
Producers must have an OPTins account to use the new system. New account requests take 7 to 10 business days to process. Therefore, MIA advises producers to register early. Producers who currently use OPTins for filings/payments in other states do not need to re-register. However, they will need to add Maryland to their existing registration.
