MS | Mississippi joins the growing roster of states enacting data security legislation. On June 4, 2019, the Mississippi Insurance Department (MID) published Bulletin 2019-4, which explains the provisions of the state’s Insurance Data Security Act.
The Act defines the responsibilities of licensees to have information security programs based on risk assessments. It also outlines a process for investigation of cybersecurity events and notification of MID regarding cybersecurity events. The bulletin also explains how some licensees may qualify for exemptions from some, but not all, sections of the Act.
