As networked devices and online applications increasingly become part of our daily lives, data security also becomes more important. In recent years, a number of key states, most notably California, have passed data security legislation. Many other states are also considering such laws.
The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) recently published a summary of the current and pending legislation. The list breaks the information down by state. Note that the laws listed in this article apply to private sector entities. NCSL also has compiled a separate list for laws pertaining to state agencies and other governmental entities.
