WA | The Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) is working with the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) to update the way people apply for and maintain their insurance licenses in Washington state.
Business-Entity Licensee Changes
Starting March 2024, the following resident and non-resident business entities can now apply for an initial Washington state license, renew on time or complete a late renewal of their existing licenses through NIPR:
- Insurance producer
- Surplus line broker
- Life settlement broker
- Title
- Premium finance company
- Rental car
- Self-service storage
- Portable electronics
Individual Licensee Changes
Also available the following resident and non-resident individual licensees can apply for an initial Washington state license through NIPR:
- Insurance producer (available since 2011)
- Surplus line broker (available since 2011)
- Life settlement broker (starting March 2024)
Individuals can now renew their Washington license up to their expiration date through NIPR. We’ve eliminated the requirement to renew 10 days prior and up to the expiration date through Washington’s online system.
NOTE: Resident individual licensees will need to have their continuing education (CE) requirements complete and NIPR must have the CE on file at the time of completing their renewal application.
