NY | The New York Department of Financial Services (DFS) today issued an Industry Letter to all regulated entities concerning a “widespread cybercrime campaign” reported in its jurisdiction. The campaign appears designed to steal nonpublic private consumer information (NPI) from public-facing websites and use it to fraudulently apply for pandemic and unemployment benefits.
DFS has already received several reports from regulated entities that have detected both successful and unsuccessful versions of these cyber-attacks. Thus, they urge cybersecurity professionals to review their own systems and remediate any vulnerabilities.
